Jay is a Scottish composer, musician and songwriter currently based in Perth, Australia. Since completing his Masters in Composition at The University of Edinburgh, he has turned his hand to many creative fields, focusing mainly on film and theatre.
His first complete musical A Gentleman’s Game was performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2016, and soon after he was invited to showcase his work to industry leaders in Edinburgh and London.
In Australia he has collaborated with companies producing some of the most exciting work in Australian theatre, including scores for Lakespeare’s productions of Richard III, As You Like It, and Songs and Sonnets - a show devised around the pairing of his original songs with Shakespeare Sonnets. Other notable works he has written for and performed in Australia include The Deadly Game of Marbles and Story of the Oars.
His most recent ventures in film saw him collaborate with Sport For Jove on their feature film Venus and Adonis, further showcasing his ability to write music compatible with the richness of Shakespearean language, and Horse Media on their debut film SNATCHERS, a black comedy with a funk/soul score, to be released in 2025.
Jay is currently working on a new musical titled ZERO, exploring the legacy of journalist John Hersey and the bombing of Hiroshima.
